How Much Does a Fiberglass Pool Cost?

How Much Does a Fiberglass Pool Cost?

It’s the first question almost every homeowner asks. And it’s a fair one.

The honest answer is that fiberglass pool costs vary depending on the size of the pool, the features you choose, your yard, and what’s included in your installation package. But that doesn’t mean we can’t give you a useful, straightforward breakdown of what goes into the price and what to expect.

If you’re in the research phase, this is the post to read before you start collecting estimates.

What Does a Fiberglass Pool Actually Cost?

Most fiberglass pool installations fall somewhere between $45,000 and $85,000 for a complete, fully installed pool. Larger pools with more features, complex excavation, or premium add-ons can push beyond that range.

That number covers the pool shell, installation, equipment, plumbing, concrete surround, and permits. It does not cover optional upgrades like heating, saltwater systems, lighting packages, or landscaping around the pool.

A few factors will move your number up or down significantly:

  • Pool size and shape
  • Site conditions and excavation complexity
  • Equipment package selected
  • Add-ons and upgrades
  • Local permit requirements

We’ll break each of these down below.

What’s Included in a Complete Fiberglass Pool Installation

Before comparing prices, it’s worth understanding what a complete installation actually includes. A full professional installation from Aquamarine Pools & Spas covers:

The Pool Shell

The fiberglass shell itself is manufactured in a controlled factory environment by the pool manufacturer. The shell price varies based on size, shape, and the manufacturer. We work with two of the industry’s most respected brands, Latham Pools and Thursday Pools, both of which offer strong warranties and a wide range of options.

Equipment Package

Every installation includes a pump, filter, and valves. We install Pentair equipment as our standard, which is among the most reliable and widely supported pool equipment on the market. The equipment package is one area where cutting costs can hurt you long term, so we don’t compromise here.

Plumbing and Electrical

Your pool needs properly sized plumbing lines and electrical connections for the pump, lights, and any additional equipment. This work is included in a complete installation.

Concrete Surround

Every installation includes a concrete allowance for the pool surround. Our standard installations include a $2,500 concrete allowance. Larger or more complex deck designs will cost more, but the base surround is covered.

Permits

Permits are included for most locations. Requirements vary by municipality, so your project manager will confirm what applies to your specific address early in the process.

LED Lighting

Two LED lights on remote control are included in our standard complete installation. Additional lighting is available as an upgrade.

What Affects the Final Price

Pool Size and Shape

This is the single biggest factor in your total cost. A smaller recreational pool in the 12 by 24 foot range will cost significantly less than a large freeform pool with a tanning ledge and spa combo. As a general rule, bigger pools cost more for the shell, more for excavation, more for concrete, and more for water and chemicals to fill and maintain.

If budget is a concern, starting with a right-sized pool rather than the largest option available is almost always the smarter move. Fiberglass pools are low maintenance regardless of size, so a smaller pool still delivers the same ownership experience.

Site Conditions

What’s under your yard matters. Rocky soil, high groundwater, difficult access, significant grading requirements, or proximity to underground utilities can all add to excavation costs. A straightforward dig in open, accessible yard with cooperative soil will cost less than a complicated site with obstacles.

This is one reason an in-person estimate matters. We can look at your yard and give you an accurate picture of what excavation is likely to involve before you commit to anything.

Add-Ons and Upgrades

This is where fiberglass pool costs can vary the most. Optional upgrades include:

  • Pool heating: gas heaters, heat pumps, and solar systems vary in price but all extend your swim season significantly
  • Saltwater system: our preferred alternative to traditional chlorine, adds upfront cost but reduces chemical expenses over time
  • Additional LED lighting
  • Water features: waterfalls, fountains, and interior pool streams
  • Pool and spa combos
  • Natural rock features

None of these are required, but many homeowners find that one or two well-chosen upgrades significantly improve how much they use and enjoy the pool.

Decking and Landscaping

The concrete allowance included in a standard installation covers a functional surround. If you want an expanded deck, pavers, a pool house, fencing, landscaping, or an outdoor kitchen nearby, those costs are separate and handled by the appropriate contractors. It’s worth factoring these into your overall backyard budget early so you’re not surprised later.

Fiberglass Pools vs. Gunite: The Cost Comparison That Matters

Purchase price comparisons between fiberglass pools and gunite pools can be misleading if you only look at the upfront number. Gunite pools are often priced similarly to fiberglass pools at installation, and in some cases cost more because of the labor involved in on-site construction.

Where fiberglass pools consistently win is in the total cost of ownership over time.

A gunite pool will need to be replastered every 10 to 15 years at a cost that typically runs $10,000 or more. The porous surface requires more chemicals and more pump runtime to maintain water quality. Repairs to cracks and surface damage add up over the years.

A fiberglass pool carries a lifetime structural warranty. There is no replastering, no resurfacing, and no liner replacement. Chemical costs are lower because the smooth gel coat surface resists algae and keeps water balanced longer. Energy costs are often lower too because the pool doesn’t require as much filtration time.

Over a 20-year ownership period, those differences in ongoing costs can easily exceed the original purchase price of the pool.

A Simple Way to Think About It

When you’re comparing estimates, ask each company for the total cost of ownership over 10 or 20 years, not just the installation price. Include expected resurfacing, chemical costs, and energy costs. That comparison will tell a very different story than looking at the upfront number alone.

Financing Your Fiberglass Pool

A fiberglass pool is a significant investment, and most homeowners don’t pay for it entirely out of pocket. Pool financing is widely available and can make the project much more accessible.

Our payment schedule is structured around project milestones so you’re only paying as work progresses:

  • 25% deposit to begin
  • 25% at completion of shell drop
  • 25% at completion of backfill and equipment
  • 25% at completion of the project

Is a Fiberglass Pool Worth the Investment?

For most homeowners, yes. And the data backs it up.

A well-installed fiberglass pool adds meaningful value to a home. It extends your usable outdoor living space, provides years of enjoyment for your family, and typically recoups a solid portion of its cost in home value, particularly in markets where pools are desirable.

Beyond resale value, there’s the simple return on enjoyment. A fiberglass pool is low maintenance by design. You’re not spending your weekends managing water chemistry or paying for service calls to deal with surface problems. You’re using the pool.

That’s the point.
